Vintage clothing is a generic term for garments originating from a previous era. The phrase is also used in connection with anything over 20 years of age, and used by many retail boutiques as vintage clothing stores. Today vintage dressing encompasses choosing accessories, mixing vintage garments with new, as well as creating an ensemble of various styles and periods. Vintage clothes typically sell at low prices for high end named brands. This seems counter intuitive since many vintage clothing items are very well made with fibers that do not fade, stretch etc. You would think these items should be more expensive than contemporary or new clothing items. Vintage clothing dressing has been part of the world since World War I as an idea of reusing clothing because of the textile shortage.
Vintage clothing can be found in cities at local boutiques like Serendipity of Litchfield (located in the lower level space along South Street in Litchfield, Connecticut,) or local charities, or on the internet. Vintage clothing is also known as retro clothing. Serendipity of Litchfield will be launching its new web site in June 2019 with various items for sale on-line.
